In addition, Andrew has a degree in Hospitality from Johnson & Wales University, Providence, RI.

Meet AutoWorks General Manager and Service Writer

Karl Engel

Karl brings more than 45 years of business, public relations, and advertising experience to AutoWorks. He started as a radio announcer in Pittsburgh, moved to public relations in New York City, and then on to account management in a New York-based advertising agency. In 1981, he ventured out on his own and he and his wife, Styliani Engel, founded and operated a successful publishing company, Engel Publishing Partners, located in the Philadelphia area.

Karl was President and CEO of Engel Publishing Partners and the publisher of Med Ad News, a magazine that he co-founded with his wife in 1981. The publishing company focused on publications directed to the pharmaceutical industry. The company was sold in 1994 to Euromoney Institutional Investor PLC, which is a division of the UK’s Daily Mail.

In October 2014, Karl ended almost 10 years of retirement taking on a new job: managing the operations of AutoWorks, an independent full-service auto repair center in Delray Beach, FL. At that time, AutoWorks was acquired by his son, Andrew Engel.

Karl was born and raised in Philadelphia and has a BA degree from Temple University. As a young man, Karl joined the US Navy and served as a medical assistant in Vietnam during the Vietnam War.

Meet AutoWorks Shop Dog, Labrador Retriever

Buddy

AutoWorks would not be complete without our day-resident dog: a black Labrador retriever whose name everybody knows. Buddy is a little over 2 years old and weighs 87 pounds. Buddy greets all our customers with a high degree of enthusiasm. He is big and strong and full of energy. But most of all, he is the friendliest dog you will ever meet (unless, of course, you meet another Lab).

True to the temperament of his breed, Buddy has a kind, pleasant, outgoing, and tractable nature. He instinctively enjoys holding objects and hands or arms in his mouth, which he does with great gentleness.

Buddy spends most of his day in the air-conditioned office and resting in his bed, moving with much excitement when a customer comes into the waiting room and when he smells food.
